SSC's Clean Energy Campaign

In cooperation with the Madison Clean Energy Coalition, SSC's Clean Energy Campaign seeks to advocate the end of dirty, coal-powered energy on campus. This campaign has 5 stated requirements of the university:

1) That the total amount of pollution emitted as a result of the University's energy production activities be less than or equal to the amount that would be produced where all campus energy generated via clean natural gas.
2) That all energy generated via non-renewable resources come from within Dane County.
3) That the university meet the recommendations of the Governor's Task Force on Renewable Energy; namely that the university procure 10% of its total electricity through renewable resources by 2006, and 20% by 2010
4) That, at all times, the health of the campus community be the first priority in determining the order in which energy generation resources are used.
5) That the university, in general, cease its practice of burning coal for energy without modern pollution controls.

It is our organization's stance that the university, as a statewide, national, and international leader in science and health technology, should not be utilizing the dirtiest possible energy generation mechanism. Coal is a resource of the past, and as such, should not be used by our institution in the present or future.
